Gina L. Maxwell's debut novel, Seducing Cinderella, is sweet, sexy, funny, and straight up fantastic. This book does everything right; character development, pacing, dialogue, conflict resolution. From the start of the first chapter, I was immersed in the book and already attached to Lucie and Reid, our H/H. Lucie is a believable 29 year old woman, a mixture of professional competence and some personal heartache and insecurities. And Reid, while an alpha MMA champion, is also a caring man who doesn't want his broken childhood to define him. Reid and Lucie's older brother were best friends growing up so they already have a history and Reid sincerely likes Lucie for who she is. Lucie is a physical therapist who agrees to help Reid rehab from an injury he incurred while training for his next match. In return, Reid will help Lucie finally catch the eye of the perfect doctor she has had a crush on for years by teaching her how to seduce a man. Instead, he finds himself seducing his Cinderella.

What I found incredibly refreshing was that although Reid initially questioned the wisdom of getting involved sexually with his friend's younger sister, he quickly treated Lucie as the mature adult she was and let her decide if she wanted to make love with him. No scenes of brother rushing in suggesting that because she had sex, his sister was somehow sullied. Kudos to the author for writing a romance with characters that reflect the current state of relationships in the year 2012!

And speaking of sex, this book was deliciously steamy. Very hot, very sexy, very intimate. Lucie and Reid set each other on fire. Even a thunderstorm can't put out the flames!

So if you like sexy contemporaries with appealing characters who undergo emotional growth and reading about a relationship that deepens into intimacy and love, you will love this book. As I suggested at the start of my review, it's hard to believe this author hasn't been publishing for years and that this is indeed her debut. I look forward to many more books from her and can wholeheartedly recommend this book.

I've been doing a group re read of this book and boy did I have a much better experience this go around! I had read this book before but didn't have the same experience that I'm having now. I now see what the hype was about this book. Sorry it took me this long Gina! I've read other books by Gina Maxwell but this one right here took me to the MAX!!!! It started off as your typical "hot guy" helps the "shy girl" land the "guy of her dreams" but it became so much more. Way more. Walls are torn down, insecurities are shown, Reid and Lucie confide things in each other that they've never told anyone else. They slowly start to fall in love and all was right in the world until.....it happens. Once it happens I was so done with Reid. One thing you can't do is take back words and in my opinion what he said to Lucie was a real low blow. Reid didn't redeem himself enough for me and I ended up disliking him at the end of the story. I also purchased audio narration and the narrator did a good job with bringing the story to life.
Loved this book! Loved reading enough to buy the audiobook too! Great characters, dialogue, plot,build-up and pacing to get to an awesome happily ever after had me re-reading my favorite sections of the book. Oh...and the perfectly-placed sex scenes did not disappoint!...and definitely added to the story. A must-buy, must-read book!

Guessing you’ve read other reviews to get the storyline but here’s a quick synopsis anyway. Lucy is a physical therapist who’s been infatuated with the orthopedic surgeon she’s been working with for years. However, she’s never learned how to dress or act in a sexy but still conservative way, nor has she cared to until now, when “her” surgeon asked for her best friend’s number instead of hers. Her frumpy ways might have to go! And her insecurities need rehabilitation too.

Enter Reid. He’s an injured MMA fighter with a bum shoulder. He knocks on Lucy’s office door and notices she’s been crying. He’s 6’3”, has an amazing athletic body, is a hidden artist...and Reid is Lucy’s older brother’s best friend! Both guys are MMA fighters. They’ve known each other since they were kids but they haven’t seen each other in years. And Reid becomes Lucy’s “fairy grandmother” when she asks him to give her a makeover to capture and keep the interest of that doctor. However, interestingly & much to both their surprise, his magic starts something beautiful that transforms both of them.

If you liked the movies “She’s All That” or “The Duff”, you’ll especially love this very adult version (no teenagers here! This is most definitely rated “R”).
